Due capitelli romanici della sezione medievale dei Musei Civici di Como

Abstract

In the mediaeval section of the Civic Museums in Como, two capitals, one decorated and the other with two zones, from the Romanesque period are preserved. The historiated one with Stories from the Infancy of Christ has been the subject of extensive critical studies, which have assigned it to different craftsmen and periods of execution, while the two-zone one, with acanthus leaves and chasing animals (prey and predators), has been less fortunate, particularly due to its poor state of conservation. The stylistic comparisons proposed here, starting from the critical position of Anna Maria Segagni Malacart, taken up more recently by Giorgio Milanesi and extended, regarding the decorated capital, seem to indicate that the two artefacts belong to the same antelamic craftsman, therefore belonging to the activity of the “Artists of the Lakes”, and a chronology of the sixth decade of the 12th century.
